Nachdem die Grabung in der neolithischen Siedlung 1998 nicht stattfinden konnte, wurde sie auf 1999 verschoben. Diesmal ist alles mit den Grundbesitzern im Vorhinein geregelt. Somit werden für die Ausgrabungen der Prähistorischen Abteilung des Naturhistorischen Museums, in der Zeit – voraussichtlich - vom 3. Mai 1999 bis voraussichtlich Ende September noch einige freiwillige Mitarbeiter gesucht. Interessenten mögen sich bitte an den Grabungsleiter Dr. Peter Stadler Peter.Stadler@univie.ac.at wenden.
After there was no excavation in 1989, it had to be postponed to 1999. This time everything has been organized with the land owners. So we are looking for volunteers for the excavation conducted by the Department of Prehistory of the Museum of Natural History,Vienna. We plan our excavation in Brunn to take place prospectively from 3rd of May 1999 probably until the end of September. Im Jahre 1989 konnten in Brunn am Gebirge, am südlichen Stadtrand von Wien, 2 Fundstellen einer frühneolithischen Siedlung bei Straßenbauarbeiten entdeckt werden. Von Beginn an führte die Prähistorische Abteilung Rettungsgrabungen, seit Unterschutzstellung Plangrabungen durch. Auf 82.000 m² konnten bisher ca. 26 Langhäuser (20x7-8m) abgedeckt werden. Das besondere an Fundstelle II ist eine sehr primitive Keramik, fast 99% der Keramik ist grob und häckselgemagert und teilweise plastisch verziert. Die Steingeräte, Lamellen und Trapeze stehen in einer mesolithischen Tradition.
In 1989 two sites of an Early Neolithic settlement were detected during road construction works in Brunn am Gebirge, Site Wolfholz. From the beginning the Department of Prehistory carried out rescue excavations in this place. Since the sites have been put under the protection of monuments our Department conducted there almost annually scientific excavations. On an area of 82.000 m2 about 26 longhouses (20x7-8m) could be unearthed. A characteristic of site II is a very primitive pottery. Almost 99% of the ceramics is coarse, with organic temper and is partially decorated with plastic ornament. The stone implements, bladelets and trapezes show mesolithic tradition.
Das Fundmaterial der Fundstelle II gehört zur ältesten Phase der Linearbandkeramik, ist jedoch noch ohne Linearverzierungen und somit die älteste Fundstelle vom Beginn der Jungsteinzeit in Österreich. 28 14C-Datierungen von beiden Fundstellen zusammen ergeben bei der Gruppenkalibration eine Datierung von etwa 5600-5100 v.Chr.
The findings of site II - the oldest neolithic site in Austria - belong to the oldest phase of the linear pottery without linear decoration. A group calibration of the 28 radiocarbon dates from both sites comes to an age of 5600-5100 B.C.
Die Ausgrabung 1999 wird etwa 12000 m2 umfassen. Aufgrund magnetischer Prospektion ist mit mindestens 4-5 Langhäusern zu rechnen.
The excavation 1999 will uncover about 12000 m2. Because of magnetic prospection we expect at least 4-5 long houses.

Quartier und Kost wird kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt, dazu ein Taschengeld, evtl ein Reisekostenzuschuß bezahlt.
Teilnahme mindestens vier Wochen.

Fitness for the partially heavy labour
Accomodation and food will be provided, also pocket-money and probably parts of the travel costs.
Participation for at least 4 weeks.
