Lisht and Dahshur: What makes a context "securely dated"
Susan J. Allen

One of the primary goals of those working with Egyptian ceramic material is to identify securely dated contexts which can then be compared to the relative sequence of pottery as presently known and used both to refine it and to construct an absolute chronology. This paper will examine the criteria which qualify a context as "securely dated". Examples from the Metropolitan Museum excavations at Lisht and Dahshur will be used.
