Old and new research: the evolving tale of the Late Bronze Age in Qatna
Marta Luciani

The discovery of a previously unknown early Late Bronze Age palatial residence (Building 6 - Operation K) at Tell Mishrifeh provides now an unprecedented richness of data for the reconstruction of the architecture, urbanism and history of mid II millennium ancient Qatna. After the pioneering discoveries made by Du Mesnil du Buisson in the 20ies, little has been known of this crucial epoch in the region of Central Syria. Data will be presented as to underline both the new findings, which include bronze weapons, local and imported pottery, ivories and cuneiform tablets and their relevance for the changing reconstruction of the Late Bronze Age in 'the region between empires'.
